Description
Several thousand people travel on the London underground daily where life is fully representative of the cosmopolitan nature and the diversity of everyday London. In Tales of the Underground, author Olayemi Karim offers a guide to help people understand the nuances and the cultural peculiarities of traveling in the city.
Olayemi, who commutes daily to the city for her job, began documenting the interesting experiences of her travels on the rails on both her Facebook page and blog. She records the unspoken rules and the expected behaviors in the London transportation network, for instance, the strange look returned by commuters, when caught staring. She also explains a number of common sights and things observed on the Underground as well as unusual and often humorous situations.
Tales of the Underground gives a fly-on-the-wall narrative of seemingly innocuous and unconnected events which, when pieced together, offers an understanding of both the travelers and the flavors of London.
книга Архитектура Московского Метро 1935-1980-е годы
Description
The book is dedicated to the artistic appearance of the Moscow metro and is an art history research that examines the architecture and monumental art of metro stations in the context of the socio-historical development of Russia. The Moscow metro was assigned one of the significant places in the mythological picture of the art of the USSR. Lyrics by L.M. Kaganovich, which sounded in 1935 from the government rostrum at a ceremonial meeting in honor of the launch of the metro: «Every station is a palace, every palace is decorated in a special way» — became decisive for the ideological leadership of the construction of the metro and for creative thought architects. Nevertheless, the aesthetic images of the stations were formed in the context of independent spatial and stylistic searches of architects. The central theme of the book is the historical evolution of the volumetric-spatial and figurative-plastic concepts of the domestic metro construction, the addition of its unique traditions. Held in 2016 at the Museum of Architecture. AV Shchusev exhibition «Moscow Metro — an underground monument of architecture» provided an opportunity to take a fresh look at the aesthetic problems of metro construction. The publication includes documents and memoirs of the creators of the first stages of the metro (some of them were recorded by the author of the book back in the 1980s), illustrated with color photographs and archival materials.
